Agate Sensors has developed breakthrough technology that miniaturizes spectroscopy from suitcase-sized lab equipment to a single pixel smaller than a grain of sand, integrated into a fingertip-sized chip. Their software-defined hyperspectral sensors give machines superhuman vision by capturing hundreds of spectral bands simultaneously, enabling applications from wearable health monitoring to defense threat detection. The Finnish startup raised €5.6 million in seed funding in September 2025 led by Voima Ventures and LIFTT, with manufacturing of initial chips expected by year-end 2025 and first commercial products targeted for late 2027. They recently secured a defense contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, demonstrating early market validation in critical applications.
