Antag Therapeutics is pioneering a novel approach to obesity treatment through GIP receptor antagonism, offering a differentiated mechanism from current GLP-1-based therapies. The company was founded by world-renowned experts including Professor Jens Juul Holst, the discoverer of GLP-1, and stems from decades of research at the University of Copenhagen. Their lead candidate AT-7687 is designed to work both as a standalone therapy and in combination with existing treatments, potentially addressing tolerability issues and suboptimal weight loss seen with current approaches. The company recently closed an €80 million Series A round led by Versant Ventures in December 2024 and received FDA IND approval to begin Phase 1 trials.
