Arkeon was an innovative food-tech startup that developed a proprietary gas fermentation process to convert carbon dioxide into protein ingredients. Using single-celled archaea, the technology synthesized all twenty essential amino acids in a single step without genetic engineering or agricultural land. The venture raised more than ten million euros in total capital, securing a final seed extension of two point seventy-five million euros in early 2023. However, due to the intense capital requirements of scaling gas fermentation, the company entered liquidation in May 2025.
