CedarDB

Seed · Data & Analytics · Munich, Germany · 10–10 employees

CedarDB is a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich that has developed a next-generation database system that combines transaction processing and analytics in a single PostgreSQL-compatible platform. The company emerged from the Umbra research project and leverages 50 years of database research to address the limitations of existing systems that were built for outdated hardware architectures. CedarDB raised €5.3 million in seed funding in May 2025 from Amplify Partners and notable angel investors including Hanno Renner (Personio CEO) and Jordan Tigani (MotherDuck CEO). The database system can handle relational, graph, and document-based data while delivering superior performance compared to specialized solutions, potentially providing significant cost savings and enabling previously impossible projects across industries like fintech.
