Emma Legal

Pre Seed · Legal & Compliance Tech · Ghent, Belgium · Founded 2024 · 4–10 employees

Emma Legal is an AI-powered workspace that automates legal due diligence for M&A transactions, turning a process that traditionally takes weeks into one that takes hours. Founded in 2024 by serial entrepreneurs Rick Van Esch and Pieter Buteneers — the team behind Chatlayer, acquired by Sinch in 2020 — the platform uses large language models to analyze data rooms, flag clause-level risks, and generate structured due diligence reports. In February 2025, the company raised €1.6 million from London-based 6 Degrees Capital and Belgian venture firm Entourage Capital to accelerate product development and European expansion. The platform has already supported over $1B in total M&A deal value worldwide and is used by law firms and M&A advisors across Europe, with early traction in the US. Emma Legal was recognized at the Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards 2026, underscoring its growing reputation in the legaltech space.
