Exergy3 is a spinout from the University of Edinburgh that develops modular, ultra-high-temperature thermal energy storage systems. Its technology converts surplus or curtailed renewable electricity into high-temperature industrial process heat ranging from 50°C to 1,200°C. This system allows heavy industry to decarbonise heating operations while relieving electrical grid constraints. The company secured a £3.6 million grant from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero to construct a demonstrator at Annandale Distillery.
