eyeo is a deep-tech photonics startup spun out of imec, the Belgian semiconductor research institute, developing Nanophotonic Color Splitting (NCOS®) technology that replaces traditional absorptive color filters in image sensors — recovering up to 70% of light that current sensors discard. The technology triples light sensitivity, improves color accuracy, and enables sub-0.5-micron pixels, with applications across smartphones, XR headsets, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and industrial imaging. Backed by 26 patents and seven years of imec research, eyeo has completed process integration at a commercial foundry and signed multiple tier-one customer engagements. In May 2026, the company raised a €40 million Series A led by Innovation Industries — bringing total funding to €55 million — to scale its Antwerp sensor design centre, develop next-generation 3D-stacked CMOS sensors, and grow commercial partnerships globally.
