Kitekraft develops flying wind turbines consisting of tethered electric aircraft that fly autonomously in figure-eight patterns to generate electricity. Their technology uses 90% less material than conventional wind turbines and costs half as much, making wind power more accessible for farmers, municipalities, islands, and microgrids. The Munich-based startup is a spin-off from Technical University of Munich and Y Combinator alumni, having recently raised $1.6 million and demonstrated complete autonomous system flight. They plan to launch their first commercial 100kW systems in 2024, with plans to scale up to multi-MW utility-scale systems.
