Kraftblock develops thermal energy storage systems that can store heat up to 1,300°C and retain energy for up to two weeks, helping industrial companies decarbonize by replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy. The company raised €20 million in Series B funding led by Shell Ventures in 2023 and has deployed its technology with major clients including PepsiCo in the Netherlands and Tata Steel. Their storage solution is made from 85% recycled steel slag, offers 1.2 MWh storage capacity per cubic meter, and has an expected service life of over 40 years. Founded in 2014 by Martin Schichtel and Susanne König, the startup targets energy-intensive industries like steel, glass, ceramics, and food processing across Europe and expanding to Asia and the Americas.
