Machinations has built a browser-based platform to design, balance, and predict game economies and systems for premium, free-to-play, and play-to-earn games. Originally developed from academic research by PhD researcher Joris Dormans at the University of Amsterdam, the platform uses AI-powered economic simulations to help game developers optimize their games in real-time. The startup raised $3.3 million in Series A funding in 2022 led by Hiro Capital, bringing their total funding to about $5 million. The platform is used by over 35,000 professionals and 400+ academic institutions worldwide, with clients including Ubisoft, Gameloft, Wargaming, King, Microsoft, EA, and Supercell.
