MOTOR Ai is a Berlin-based startup developing certified Level 4 autonomous driving software grounded in cognitive neuroscience and the Active Inference framework, allowing vehicles to make explainable, traceable decisions without relying on millions of miles of training data. Founded in 2017 by Roy Uhlmann (CEO) and Adam Bahlke (CTO), it is described as the only German company with a fully self-developed autonomous driving stack, built in close dialogue with certification authorities. The company's system already meets the most stringent European and international safety standards, including ISO 26262 (ASIL-D), AFGBV, UNECE approval standards, and the EU AI Act. In July 2025, MOTOR Ai raised a €17.1 million seed round led by Segenia Capital and eCAPITAL, with deployment of vehicles on German public roads planned for 2025–2026. The startup also received support from the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program and holds nationwide testing approval from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
