Phase Biolabs converts industrial CO₂ and hydrogen into sustainable chemicals and electrofuels using a patented gas fermentation platform. The technology retrofits existing facilities and reportedly converts CO₂ into ethanol up to 100 times faster than traditional biological methods. Backed by Y Combinator and Breakthrough Energy, the company has raised around $500 000 in pre‑seed/seed funding and operates a small pilot in the UK with EU collaborations underway. Based in Nottingham and spun out of the University of Nottingham’s Synthetic Biology Research Centre, it aims to recycle one gigaton of CO₂ by 2050.
