The story of the Pompeii shoe brand began when founder Jaime Garrastazu Enrique was a student studying finance around ten years ago, who came up with the idea of creating a shoe that would meet the formal requirements of presentations in the lecture theatre, but would also be a casual shoe. The four friends pooled their €18,000 ($20,250) in savings and founded Pompeii Brands, named after a song one of the team was learning on the guitar at the time. Today, Pompeii has a lineup of a dozen styles, five shops across Spain, and sales this year of €4 million. The company has raised $1.26M with investors including Lanzadera Accelerator, Bejo Ventures, and Seaya Ventures. Pompeii centers its strategy on growth in the online environment where it was born and international expansion through wholesale, with CEO Jaime Garrastazu leading the company since early last year and diversifying the offer beyond sneakers to include other footwear styles and clothing.
