QuantumDiamonds is a Munich-based deep tech startup spun out of the Technical University of Munich in 2022, developing diamond-based quantum sensing systems for non-destructive semiconductor chip inspection and failure analysis. Its QDM systems use nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in synthetic diamonds to map electrical currents with micrometer precision inside complex 2.5D and 3D chip packages — detecting defects invisible to conventional thermal or X-ray tools. The company has completed proof-of-concept projects with 9 of the world's 10 largest chipmakers and is scaling commercial deployments across Europe, the US, and Taiwan. In November 2023, it raised a €7M seed round led by IQ Capital and Earlybird, supplemented by €4M in grants from the EIC Accelerator and the Bavarian state government. Most recently, QuantumDiamonds announced a landmark €152M investment plan to build the world's first production facility for advanced quantum chip inspection systems in Munich, backed by the German federal and Bavarian governments under the European Chips Act.
