Second Ride is a Berlin-based hardware startup that develops and sells electric conversion kits for iconic East German Simson mopeds, transforming two-stroke combustion engines into emission-free electric drives. The kits are designed for easy DIY installation and are manufactured entirely in Berlin, including in-house hardware, software, and electronics development backed by battery technology patents. Over 800 conversion kits have been sold since founding, and the company has attracted strategic investors including MZA Meyer-Zweiradtechnik GmbH and EIT Urban Mobility — Europe's largest mobility investor. In 2022, Second Ride was awarded the German Mobility Prize in the Young Vision category by the Federal Ministry of Transport, underscoring its recognition as an innovative green mobility venture.
