Stanhope AI

Seed · AI & Machine Learning · London, United Kingdom · Founded 2021 · 11–50 employees

Stanhope AI is a London-based deep-tech startup and UCL/King's College London spin-out that builds brain-inspired AI systems using Active Inference and the Free Energy Principle, enabling autonomous machines to operate in dynamic, real-world environments beyond the limits of LLMs. Co-founded by neuroscientists Professor Rosalyn Moran and Professor Karl Friston, the company's 'Real World Model' framework allows machines to learn and adapt in real time using onboard sensor data rather than pre-trained datasets. In February 2026, it closed an $8M seed round led by Frontline Ventures, with participation from Paladin Capital Group, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund, UCL Technology Fund, and MMC Ventures. The technology is already being trialled with delivery drones and autonomous systems by partners including Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation and the Royal Navy, positioning Stanhope AI at the frontier of agentic AI for defence, robotics, and aerospace.
