Yama is a Paris-based Direct Air Capture (DAC) startup developing a modular, electrified carbon capture platform for dilute gas streams, delivering up to 50% lower costs than conventional methods. Its proprietary hybrid electrochemical process combines advanced membranes, a non-toxic liquid sorbent, and low-grade heat to cut energy use by 65% versus first-generation DAC systems, targeting $70/tCO2 at scale. The company raised a $3M seed round in July 2024 and received a $200K grant from the Milkywire Climate Fund, securing Klarna as its first carbon credit client. Backed by investors including Kibo Invest, Plug and Play, Susquehanna International Group, Voyagers.io, and Remove (Netherlands), and selected for both Third Derivative's and Creative Destruction Lab's climate cohorts, Yama is operating a pilot facility near Paris and targeting a first commercial plant by 2030.
